This weekend the tenth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at the Circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina. It is the first race weekend of the season to be held outside Europe and the first of three overseas rounds that will conclude the season.
With a fourth-place finish and a win in Portimão, Dominique Aegerter now has a total of 374 points behind his name, holding a 45-point lead over his nearest rival. Together with Ten Kate Racing, the Swiss rider will be back in action this weekend at the Argentinean circuit where last year’s World Supersport title was clinched.
On the other side of the pitbox, Leonardo Taccini will unfortunately not be present as the Italian is still recovering from the wrist fracture he suffered in Portugal. Ten Kate Racing has managed to attract the very experienced Bradley Smith as a replacement and the British rider will make his debut in the World Supersport class on the Nieuwleusen-based team’s Yamaha YZF-R6.
Bradley Smith:
“What an amazing opportunity this is for me to join the Ten Kate Racing team. After what has been a complicated season with injuries, it’s a great way to finish the year, so a big ‘Thank you’ to the team for considering me for the Argentina round. There will be a lot of things to contend with in Villicum: the bike, tyres, circuit and the WorldSBK championship are brand new to me but after being trackside in Portimão I am looking forward to joining an ultra-competitive World Supersport category.”
After two free practice sessions on Friday and a Superpole session on Saturday morning, the first race will start Saturday afternoon at 13:30 local time, 18:30 Central European Time. Race 2 will also be start on Sunday at 13:30 local time, 18:30 CET.
