Smith on a roll into Germany - Eni Grand Prix of Germany 2011

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by Nick Harris

Twenty year old Bradley Smith chases his fourth consecutive Moto2 podium finish at the eni German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring on Sunday. Riding for the French-based Tech 3 team Smith has moved into third place in the Championship on his debut season in the class behind Stefan Bradl and 125 cc World Champion Marc Marquez.

The Oxfordshire rider has never finished on the podium at the tight undulating 2.281 miles circuit but arrives brimming with confidence after a tremendous battle with Marquez and Bradl at the previous round at Mugello in Italy.

Record breaking Smith behind Gould
Bradley Smith became the first British rider to secure three consecutive podium finishes in the Intermediate class (250 and Moto 2) for 39 years when he finished third in the Moto2 race at the previous round in Mugello.

In 1972 Rodney Gould took six consecutive podiums in the 250 cc class including a victory at the Dutch TT. Gould won the 250 cc World Championship in 1970 and finished third in 1972 behind Jarno Saarinen and Renzo Pasolini.

The Sachsenring should be really interesting on a Moto2 bike. It’s narrow and a bit like a go-kart track in some parts. Qualifying on Saturday is going to be crucial because overtaking will not be easy. Using the old football cliché – we will take each race at a time.”
