Bradley Smith is eventually starting his 2022 season!
The WithU GRT RNF MotoE Team is back on track this weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix, which is the fourth round of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup in 2022.
In a wet Free Practice one this early morning, Canepa had a decent start at the TT Circuit in Assen, which he hasn't ridden before on the Energica Ego Corsa machine. He concluded the first session in P5, and after the second Free Practice was cancelled later, he went straight to Q2. In the all-important ten minutes session, the WithU GRT RNF MotoE Team rider has been out on the dry for the first time and immediately did the sixth fastest time. Therefore, he’ll start tomorrow’s race one at 16:25 local time and race two on Sunday at 15:30 local time from the second row of the grid, which is his best starting position to date.
Meanwhile, Smith was eventually back in action today, after he was declared fit by the medical director. Being back on his Energica Ego Corsa machine for the first time since the pre-season test, he managed to finish FP1 in eighth position immediately, securing the last direct ticket to Qualifying two. Riding in the dry, the Englishman had to re-adapt again, but did that brilliantly with the eighth fastest time of the field, which will see him starting both races on Saturday and on Sunday from the third row.
Bradley Smith:
“First and foremost, it’s nice to be back and start my season finally! It was definitely not the easiest day overall, because this morning it rained and we went straight into a dry Qualifying. A few months off the bike and not being in any racing situation made it difficult. Anyway, things could have been obviously worse, we'll start from P8 and I need to get the moment, that's how I level. So, we'll try to do a little bit better with the setting for tomorrow, get a good start and try to go with the front group, if possible.”
